Small but worth it’s weight in gold….A NIGHT LIGHT!Trust me. Three babies over the years, tripping over shoes, toys, cats, dogs, and my own feet. You need to have a night light in the hall and one in babies room, even if you install a separate switch on the wall for just it. No baby needs bright lights at 3am, nor does mommy…but mommy doesn’t need stubbed toes either.Have fun with baby…they grow up way too quick.
I think its fine! You never know what people can afford, so having a lot of items will allow people to pick something use full to you in their budget. I have had that problem with friends baby showers especially if its around rent i may only be able to spend 15 dollars and if they didn’t have everything down to pacifiers on their list i would not have been able to afford anything they needed.
I also breast feed. My son is 9 weeks old and we dont even use burp cloths.. never have. We use receiving blankets because you will need a clean burp cloth everything you burp him because they spit up alot. I would just bring a couple receiving blankets.
I would put anything you think you will need. My husband and I put anything and everything we could think of that we’d need on our registry, even the larger more expensive items, and we got pretty much everything we needed. If there was something we decided to buy ourselves that was on the registry we’d just go online and remove it from the registry after we purchased it. his parents and my parents bought us quite a bit of the more expensive things but our friends got us a lot of the other stuff for the baby shower. I really think you can’t have too much… because people aren’t going to look at it like you’re being greedy. When they look at the list they’ll be glad to have a big variety to choose from. I personally hate when people only register for a few things and I feel obligated to get them something from their registry out of my price range. People also have common sense, if they see you need things like baby wash and diapers/wipes, they’ll get you those things before unnecessary things.PS The person after me who said not to get the high chair… wrong. We got the Graco Cozy Dinette Highchair – Barcelona Bluegrass from Target and it reclines. We could put our son in it almost immediatly because it will recline so far back, and it has a ton of removable infant sized padding, that even without him being able to hold his head up he could sit in it. It was nice to have that to sit him in while I was making dinner or we were eating if his bouncy seat was in the wash (this happens a lot!). And we did put clothes on our registry too, but all we got was the onsies in a pack that we registered for. Clothes (especially newborn) would be the ONLY thing I’d suggest leaving off the registry. For newborn I suggest you buy only a coulple outfits you really like, the baby will out grown them so fast you’ll only get to put him/her in it a couple times.
let me tell you as a first time mom you can never have to many of anything. so get as much as possible and definatly more than 8-10 towels.
koolaid would totally work
I know what you mean by it being complicated. I felt the same way when I 1st had my daughter. My friend gave me a “hooter hider”. If you Google that you will see a pic. I am sure you have probably seen them around. Anyway, that was a God send the 1st couple months, especially when you and your baby are trying to get the hang of it… oh I remember. Now my daughter, who’s now 1 and still breastfed, and seriously have the hang of it. So much so that I don’t even need anything to cover me up because you cannot see anything anyway. It’s a skill and one day you will wonder why it seemed so hard, but while learning and getting use to each other, try the hooter hider. It was a blessing for me in the beginning.
Oh is cost about $15 at Target, but I know they sell them at Babies ‘R’ Us too.
CONGRATULATIONS! I am due with a daughter pretty soon myself. If possible, yes, do wash everything, but don’t over-stress on what detergent you use. I never used Dreft in my life (I have a son already). If possible, do NOT buy a bassinette. Your kid will outgrow it in a few months. It’s totally pointless. If possible, DO buy a crib that will expand into older beds. Kids really do grow faster than you’d think. The best thing you can do to get prepared is to take good care of yourself. Eat well, excercise if you can, rest when you’re tired. Read things that prepare you but don’t scare you. And remember–you’ll be a great mommy! It’s time for a big change, and that can be exciting but also saddening, crazy, fearful, exhilirating…WHATEVER you feel, it’s natural, and great.
I always washed all my baby stuff with the same detergent i used for everything else. never noticed a difference. If you prefer not to use chemicals on baby’s clothes, try these natural options suggested by Annie Berthold-Bond in “Clean and Green” (Ceres Press, 1994). Be sure to rinse the clothes thoroughly. Keep these and all household products out of the reach of children.Baking SodaAn effective cleaner, deodorizer, and fabric softener. Mix with water to form a paste, and use on stains to absorb odors; or add to water when presoaking new clothes to eliminate residue.BoraxA water-soluble mineral with antiseptic, antibacterial, water-softening, and whitening properties. Makes mild soap more effective (add 1/2 cup to wash). Also a good diaper presoak.Sodium PerborateA natural alternative to chlorine bleach that’s made of borax and hydrogen peroxide. Add 3 tablespoons to wash water to fight stains. (Available by mail-order from chemical-supply companies.)Washing SodaAlso known as sodium carbonate, a mineral with strong cleaning and degreasing properties. Add 2 tablespoons to laundry soap to make it more effective, or make it into a paste to remove greasy stains.White VinegarA naturally acidic pantry staple that cuts grease, softens water, and can lighten dingy and gray laundry. Add 1/4 cup to wash.
I worried so much about her “starving to death”. LoL I would get really freaked out and panicky if I let too many hours pass between feedings, even if she wasn’t crying or upset about being hungry. With my second child, my son, I was much more relaxed about it… I knew by then that your baby will let you know when they are hungry… and they aren’t always hungry every 2.75 hours… it’s okay to not be on a strict schedule with every little thing…
You have covered the gamut for baby products.Make a tote for mom or grandma with a clear plastic outside pocket for a picture of baby.Have you sewn with flannel before? Some flannels shrink quite a bit and it is always a good this to test this. Cut a 2′ x 2′ square from the fabric and wash in hot water and dry in the dryer with some towels. Measure the size of the square before and after to see if the fabric changed in size. If it did, you want to wash and dry the fabric before cutting out the pattern.Flannel is very fuzzy and should be washed and dryer dried before use by an infant.
Do a search at alibaba.com
Yeah why not?? As long as the bib wasn’t dirty.
they need to make a thing that is warm and moves up and down to simulate breathing — my son falls asleep all the time on me and when I put him down he wakes up. I’d put him on the warm breathy thingy and he’d stay asleep. that’s my magical invention, I’ll let you know when it’s in stores
Etsy is good. I really like Baby Whatknots on Etsy…cute stuff, good prices.
The premie sized cloth diapers are great burp cloths -and cheap too… only $1 each at cottonbabies.com.
I personally don’t like it. ” Schmancy” just doesn’t do it for me.
If you choose the right dye, you can get any color you like with NO bleeding or fading of color. If you choose the wrong dye, it will crock and bleed forever, which will make it more trouble than it’s worth, and you always have to worry that loose dye will cause a rash or something for the baby. The wrong type of dye to use is an “all-purpose” dye such as Rit. Sure, you can buy it almost anywhere, even the grocery store, but it will not bond firmly to the fiber in your fabric, so it is never really permanent. The right type of dye is called fiber reactive dye. You can buy it at any crafts store, or you can mail-order it; if you mail-order from a good dye supplier, the dyes cost much less per garment and come in a hundred different colors. At the crafts store, look for any good tie-dye kit, such as the ones made by Jacquard, Tulip, Rainbow Rock, or Dylon (avoid the Rit tie-dye kit and the Magic Strings tie-dye kit), or look for Dylon Permanent Dye, Tulip One Step Fashion Dye, or Procion MX dye. For mail-order, see the link below for sources of dyeing supplies.Fiber reactive dye, such as Procion MX dye, bonds permanently to the cotton in your diapers. Just follow the instructions, and leave the dye to sit with the soda ash overnight. The next day, wash once in cool water, to remove the soda ash, then wash twice in hot hot water to remove any excess unattached dye. After you have completed this washing out step, the remaining dye will not rub off or wash off. You can throw it in the laundry in hot with whites and have no color transfer at all. You don’t have to sort your laundry at all, if it’s all dyed with these high quality dyes! And because the dye does not come loose from the fabric, you do not have to worry about whether or not the loose dye is safe for your baby. Properly applied fiber reactive dye is the safest of all dyes for cotton fabric that will be used with babies.
Breast or formula feeding? If breastfeeding you may want lanolin cream for sore nipples, nursing pads for those leaks you are bound to spring, and possibly a breast pump to relieve engorgement. Formula feeding you will of course need bottles, but don’t forget the bottle brush and a microwave steam sterilizer. You may also want a baby swing or bouncer. My one item I couldn’t live without was my pack-n-play with the bassinet attachment. Also found my sound machine that made white noise very helpful in keeping baby asleep.
