Donation jar for surgery bill?
I had heart surgery 2 weeks ago, not open heart, but a left to right cardiac catheterization for a rare condition I was born with, which wasn’t discovered until 9 months ago. I’m a 25-year-old male, and I was in the hospital for Aortic to right atrial fistula with transcatheter repair noncoronary sinus of valsalva to right atrial fistula repair with transcatheter placement of Amplatz Duct money jar donations Occluder. Anyways, I was only in the hospital for one night, but I received a bill the other day, which is outrageous. The bill is $21,500, but the hospital has a financial aid program, which I am still waiting to qualify for to get it for free hopefully, but it’s taking months for the application to be processed. I thought about going around to friends with a donation jar in my hands and have them donate $1 each. I was thinking about taking the donation jar to random people. If I get 21,000 people to donate a dollar than my bill will be paid off. This is if I don’t qualify for financial aid, which I’ve been waiting on forever. Is this a good idea? Is asking random people to donate illegal? I can carry around proof of my bill and surgery, so they don’t think I’m just conning money out of them. Any information will be helpful.
