I read a sensational article in the Glasgow Herald newspaper today. One of its regular journalists, Iain MacWhirter, poured gallons of scorn on Britain’s bankers, who are unrepentant in their ways. Not only have they hiked up their salaries – they are still being paid exorbitant bonuses.However, electronic money jar target ranting doesn’t solve anything. How do we actually stop these crooks? Power is the art of entrapment. We cannot simply hoard money under carpets or jam jars. Employers pay workers through electronic payments into bank accounts. Companies must have a bank account. It is illegal to pass money under the table. Furthermore, actual bank notes are merely a promise of payment, and these bits of paper expire – and the only way to trade them for new ones is at a bank – which only deals with customers. Therefore the bankers’ jobs are assured, because they are vested into English and Scottish law.So how exactly can we hold these bankers to account?
