My step-children have been out of control, what do I do?
This is going to be a long one!! I will be as short as possible! I have been with my boyfriend for about 71/2 years. I have a 2 step kids, a Girl who is 7 and a Boy who is 9. The history is complicated but, we got together about 4 months before his daughter was born. We also have a child together that is a 4 y.o. girl. The kids have always been a big part of our lives. We have joint custody, they spend EVERY weekend, holiday and all school vacations, they also spend 1 whole month durring the summer with us. Life was pretty good the first 4 years, but durring the past 2-3 years they have slowly been going down hill. The past year has been the worst! It started with them not listening, talking back, then ignoring me, then the sneakyness and lies started. They lie about everything, they tell more lies than truths. Then the stealing started, they steal from stores so I have refused to take them anywhere, then they stole money from my purse and tried to take all the piggy bank kids bank holiday weekend money(about 85$)to their mothers house. I found it in thier jackets. This has started MANY problems between me and my boyfriend. He says, “they are just being kids…you are being too hard on them!” he refuses to accept the truth! It is the main thing we fight about. The girl started on medication for ADD, I don’t see any difference. When I am alone with them they turn into little devils when Dad comes back they act like angels in front of him. They have been causing so much trouble at school the boy is in the principal’s office every day, for fighting on the bus, swearing, pulling boys pants down, and sexual harrasment on the girls, just to name a few. The girl,7, has been spoken to by the bus driver for sitting with the 6th graders instead of in the 2nd grade seats. When she was confronted about what they talk about she said they talk about boys, sex, drugs, and drinking, also they make plans of what boys they will go to third base with, etc.etc. this is just the tip of the iceberg. When I thought it could not get any worse, it did,………. At their mothers house, they set their bed room on fire. They stole a lighter, piled up paper on the floor and started lighting it on fire piece by piece. After about 15 min of this the smoke detector went off and the mother ran in to see flames up to their knees, they both have small 2nd degree burns on their legs, not too serious. Their mother put the fire out before it got out of hand. I am afraid that next time it will be worse and it might happen when they are with ME! I have suggested they go to see a therapist or child psychologist, but their dad keep saying my kids don’t need professional help they are just kids!! I’m sorry but they are NOT JUST KIDS!!! I don’t want my daughter to end up like them. I cry because I don’t even feel like a family any more, I dread seeing them, and don’t want them in my home. But I love my boyfriend, and I want my family. What do I do? I want to give up! If you are still reading,THANK YOU!!Thanks for sticking it through! This is probably the longest question ever!!
