I’m a single father, and most of the women I date are single mothers. I do okay financially, but there aren’t a lot of zeros in my bank account after I take care of my bills and children. Plus, I don’t like to “sport date” meaning I don’t like to go out on expensive dates in order to get to know a person. I prefer to do things that don’t cost much money, like go to Starbucks and talk, or cook dinner at my home, or even though it sounds kids bank play money corny…a nice walk in the park or on the beach. I prefer these type of dates so that if things don’t progress there are no hard feelings. Once I took a woman out to a nice restaurant on a first date. The bill came to $60. It wasn’t the fact that it was too much money…it was the fact that I never saw her again and that $60 could have been a couple pair of shoes for my kids.When I’ve dated single mothers in the past, I’ve had to be understanding if they didn’t have sitters, or gas money to drive, or other things that come up from being a single parent. However, I have had single mothers complain that I shouldn’t date if I don’t have money to take them out (because they want to be treated like queens). Or, they get upset if my baby sitting falls through, or if I’m not available to talk to the on the phone or see them when I’m spending time with my boys watching tv or playing games or whatever.Is there a double standard of what’s expected from single fathers versus single mothers?
